February Meeting: Student Dinner!

Please join the Greater Seattle and Snohomish County components as we host our annual Student Dinner to welcome the 2018 graduating class to the Dental Hygiene profession. The dinner/meeting will be held at the Shoreline Community College PUB Rm 9208 on Tuesday, February 20th starting at 5:30pm.

You will have the opportunity to meet and greet each other and all of our wonderful sponsors from 5:30 to 6:00. Our sponsors include: Young Dental; Lumadent; DH Cubed; Glaxo Smith Kline; FidaLab; Dental Connections; Dental Professionals; All Star Dental Staffing; Dental Temps Staffing Solutions; Sonicare; and Henry Schein. A buffet dinner (taco bar with all the trimmings) will be served at 6:00pm followed by our usual one hour CE course at about 6:30pm.

We have two presenters for this meeting. The first is Lori Burke, RDH and Vice President of the Washington Dental Hygiene Association, who will speak about membership in ADHA/WDHA.

Our second presenter is Elizabeth Klaniecki, RDH BSDH who will speak about working abroad in dental hygiene. "Traveling the World with a Toothbrush: Oral Health Adventures and Opportunities." Elizabeth has traveled globally to over 10 countries to provide dental care to the underserved. Firmly believing that her remote world oral health experiences have allowed her to remain excited about her career, she shares that passion and those opportunities with others. She has experience in all areas of dentistry: private practice, public health, periodontics, pedodontics, and prosthetics. She is a born and raised Washington native earning her AA in Dental Hygiene from Pierce College and BSDH from East Tennessee State University. When she is not travelling, Elizabeth resides in Olympia, Washington.

Please RSVP by Friday, February 16th to let us know if you are coming so we can plan for the dinner. Parking is free after 4:00pm on the Shoreline Campus and is available in any legally parked space. Here's a link to a campus map: https://www.shoreline.edu/map/ .

Smiles for Veterans, March 3,2018

Hello All,

Thank you to those of you who have volunteered at Smiles for Veterans in years past. This year we have been given Saturday, March 3 from 8 to 4 at the PIMA Dental Hygiene Clinic in Northgate to help our veterans with their dental needs.

We need your help, either with sharing this information with your friends, clients etc, or volunteering to help out on March 3. We run on donations and volunteers, so if you can't help please find it in your hearts to make a donation of restorative supplies.

I know we all get busy and there are other dental events on March 3. Unfortunately we do not get to pick the date, and we make the best of the day we are given. I have attached a Smiles for Veterans flyer, please share it and it you have questions, please email me: smiles4veterans @ gmail.com.

Thank you,
Vicki Munday, RDH, BS

Update on Continuing Education Credits

Washington State dental hygienists are required to have proof of 15 hours of CE per year for re-license. The courses must relate to dental hygiene. No specifications are made that limit on-line courses.

The clinical dental team must also have BLS for health care providers certification by the American Heart Association.

If you are audited, you need at minimum two years of proof of continuing education.

CE benefit for members

The greater Seattle Dental Hygienists' Society provides, as a member benefit, several free continuing education credits every year. CE courses are offered in conjunction with general meetings, volunteer events, and as a week-end CE course.

Check the general meeting information on this page or the GSDHS calendar for exact dates.
