November 14, 2017 General Meeting

Just a reminder of the Greater Seattle Component Meeting next Tuesday at Pacific Tower 1200 - 12th Avenue S in Seattle's Beacon Hill neighborhood. Directions at http://pactower.org/directions.

The general meeting will start at 7:00pm followed by "Sharpening Your Skills" presented by Deborah McGlynn, RDH. A representative from Lumadent will also be on hand if you are interested in their loupes. In addition, PDT has donated four instruments that will be raffled off to lucky winners.

Deborah has been a practicing Dental Hygienist since 1981. During her career she has had the opportunity to work in Hospital Dentistry for 8 years at the UW Medical Hospital, which then lead her to pursue her teaching career. She taught at Shoreline Community College in the Dental Hygiene Program for 13 years as a first year fundamentals and clinical instructor and in the 2nd year clinic for that last 5 years of her 13 years at Shoreline. She then went on to tutor dental hygiene students, and practicing hygienists, in dental hygiene skills and ergonomics for the next 17 years.

From that experience she determined there was a need for more personalized, injury prevention training. DH Cubed is her company that is committed to preventing work related injury and perfecting skills in order to provide the best care to the patients.

She has had the privilege to volunteer as a hygienist in Alaska on St Paul Island. She has also volunteered her teaching skills to help forward the only dental hygiene program in Latin America, "Smiles Forever".

She has been on three Dental Hygiene Program Advisory Boards.

Please join us for an exciting evening where you get to learn about sharpening from an entirely different perspective and to use the latest technology in sharpening! The OneTen Sharpening Method.

Bring your loupes, sharpening stones, some of your Universal curettes from work. You will learn how to assess your own sharpening skill and determine if you are sharpening enough, correctly, efficiently! Come ready to sharpen and leave with a new perspective on the importance of sharpening correctly and most of all!! Working with EASE!.

We look forward to seeing you next Tuesday!

Washington State dental hygienists are required to have proof of 15 hours of CE per year for re-license. The courses must relate to dental hygiene. No specifications are made that limit on-line courses.

The clinical dental team must also have BLS for health care providers certification by the American Heart Association.

If you are audited, you need at minimum two years of proof of continuing education.

CE benefit for members

The greater Seattle Dental Hygienists' Society provides, as a member benefit, several free continuing education credits every year. CE courses are offered in conjunction with general meetings, volunteer events, and as a week-end CE course.
