The Greater Seattle Dental Hygienists' Society represents dental hygienists in the Greater Seattle area. The mission of the Greater Seattle Dental Hygienists' Society is to increase awareness of and access to quality oral health care, to promote the highest standards of research and education, licensure and practice for dental hygienists, and to represent and promote the interests of the dental hygiene profession, as a means to improve the public's health.

Sealant Day is March 10th at Shoreline Community College, from 9-3.

February 21, 2012 General Meeting
Pilot Study Of Oncogenic HPVs In Oral Lavage Samples From HIV Positive Senegal Women
This course is to inform dental hygienists on what sort of research is being done within the realm of oral cancer. The overview of the lecture includes: research in Senegal, the human papillomavirus (HPV), HPV and oral cancer, a review on real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), a discussion of the pilot study and current studies being done.
Juliet Dang, BS, RDH, MS, PhDc
Juliet was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB, Canada where she completed her Bachelor of Science (Biology/Chemistry) and her Diploma of Dental Hygiene. After working for a couple of years as a full-time RDH, she was accepted into the Master of Oral Biology program at The University of Washington. Directly after graduating in the spring of 2010, Juliet was accepted into the PhD program in Oral Biology. Currently, she is in her second year, and her thesis is focused on the human papillomavirus (HPV) and oral cancer.
Rosie Bellert honored by RDH Magazine
Rosie Bellert, RDH, interim director of the dental hygiene program at Shoreline Community College, was honored by RDH Magazine. She was chosen to receive the Award of Distinction for her dedication and enthusiasm to improve her patients' lives, her community, and her profession.

CE benefit for members
The greater Seattle Dental Hygienists' Society provides, as a member benefit, several free continuing education credits every year. CE courses are offered in conjunction with general meetings, volunteer events, and as a week-end CE course.
We hold our general meetings at the Good Shepherd Community Center at 4649 Sunnyside Avenue N. in Wallingford, centrally located for easy access off I-5 for all our members. Map and directions
Day and Time: We meet on the second Tuesday of the month. The business meeting starts at 7:00 and the CE runs 7:30 - 8:30 pm. Check the GSDHS calendar for exact dates.

This year HOD was in Spokane. GSDHS was represented by Andrea Higgins, Delores Banfield, Jane Moreno, Hayley Deane, Katie Lamb, Norma Wells, and Patty Doyle, also SCCC student delegate Jarilyn Tomlinson and Alternate Jess West and Shoreline CC student delegate Autumn Roth and Alternates Jennifer Cooper and Leah Gilliam.

EWU Master of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene
Eastern Washington University offers a Master of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene (MSDH) program. This program is 100% web-based and requires two visits to the EWU Riverpoint Spokane campus.
The mission of the program is to educate and graduate dental hygienists who are technically, intellectually and ethically prepared for the upcoming challenges facing the dental profession. Once admitted students will be able to choose teaching, administration, or clinical research as their emphasis area for study. More information
